By volunteering with Vinnies, you can be sure you’re making a difference for those in need. For some Vinnies volunteers, this is a chance to give something back to the community, to use their skills and experience to make a difference in the lives of people who need assistance the most. For others, it is a chance to develop new skills and experience in a supportive environment.

That’s right, becoming a Vinnies Wellington volunteer will make a difference in your own life too!

Volunteering for Vinnies is a rich and rewarding experience. As a volunteer, you’ll benefit from:

  • the satisfaction of helping others

  • the opportunity to share your skills and teach others

  • the opportunity to learn new skills

  • the sense of community and friendship.

Event volunteers

We’re on the lookout for locals to join our volunteer whānau in Porirua. Whether you can give a few hours a week or just want to help out occasionally, every hand makes a difference.

From sorting donations to helping customers, you’ll be part of a supportive team making a real impact in our community. No experience needed, just your time and good energy.

OP shop assistant

Vinnies Wellington’s volunteer op shop assistants are crucial to the smooth running of our charity stores. As a volunteer assistant, you support the shop manager in their day-to-day running of the store. This includes displaying stock, processing purchases, customer service and receiving and sorting new donations. We have a variety of volunteer shifts and locations so you can find a time, day and location that suits you.

Finder of fashion

Every week we receive hundreds of items of clothing and bric-a-brac that need sorting for sale. Based at the rear of our Newtown Op Shop at 207 Riddiford Street, this role involves sorting incoming donations and clothing bales, organising good-quality stock for shop managers to access with ease, and handling general cleaning needs. To really enjoy this role, you’ll need to be physically fit.
