Hearing aids are a wonderful but expensive invention.  Some time ago gradual loss of hearing began to seriously affect my quality of life.  After being fitted with hearing aids I was once again able to experience the familiarity of every day normal sounds. I could now participate in conversations, hear music, listen to the birdsong in the garden.  I no longer felt isolated at meetings or social and family functions – I now feel able to remain an active member of our community.   The Vincentian Foundation for the Elderly is providing wonderful support to the elderly hard of hearing and I wish them well in their future endeavours.  Very sincerely and with thanks – Marion.

WHO ARE WE.

The Vincentian Foundation for the Elderly was formed in 1976 by St Vincent de Paul Society New Zealand as a Charitable Trust. The Foundation aims to improve the welfare of seniors within our communities.

WHAT WE DO.

Since established, the Foundation has provided funding for many senior orientated projects.

The current focus is on providing grants to help fund hearing aids for seniors on low incomes throughout New Zealand.

Inadequate hearing can have a marked impact on an elderly persons well-being. It can lead to them being marginalised as a result of experiencing poor communication, isolation, depression and other health problems. Adequate hearing enables the elderly to communicate effectively with the outside world. We find that many pensioners have difficulty finding sufficient funds to purchase hearing aids.

It is with deep gratitude that I write this letter of sincere thanks.  Yes, thank you and all the silent benefactors who support you in your work of helping the elderly.  Your very generous donation of $750 has helped toward the cost of two standard type hearing aids for me and yesterday they were fitted.  I cannot believe the difference they have made.  One of the greatest joys was this morning to hear the full range of bird songs and not just the louder Tuis.  Thank you and may God bless each of you and your families, my prayer and gratitude will be with you always.  - Margaret, Waikanae
