In light of current events, Grace has found her role extremely valuable. Her own reflections exhibited the selfless, warm nature of volunteering to make a difference in the community.

Volunteering at Vinnies for the last year has been a blast. It is a refreshing change from my weekly shift work as a nurse at Wellington Hospital. I love having the ability to be creative with colour, fabric and use my skills that I have acquired over many years sewing.

As a majority volunteer-based organisation, we rely on the generosity of everyday people giving their time to support the greater mission of Vinnies Wellington - which is to simply help people.

Year 10, Wellington College students, were set free for a day to partake in volunteer activities throughout the region.

On Sunday 18 November the second World Day of the Poor was observed around the globe. Pope Francis established the World Day of the Poor to encourage the whole Church to reach out to those in need and let the poor know their cries have not gone unheard, the Pope said in his message this year. 

He’s come a long way, growing in confidence “and muscles,” he laughs, with Simon, one of the van drivers, helping him learn the ropes and giving him a hand with his studies at WelTec.

‘I love fashion and I want a career in it.’ Re Sew is an opportune milestone which fits into her big picture. She has already learnt a variety of skills, especially making clothes for herself and her children.
